Sheffield’s Manufacturing Corridor

The Advanced Manufacturing Park at Catcliffe (just east of Sheffield, S60) is home to Boeing, McLaren, and dozens of aerospace and automotive supply chain businesses. These sites typically have 100–500 space car parks, 24/7 operations, and electricity consumption of £200,000–£2m per year. Solar canopies delivering 200–1,000 kWp reduce grid dependency and support ISO 50001 and Scope 2 reporting.

The Attercliffe and Tinsley corridor (S9, S13) hosts traditional metal-working, plastics, and distribution businesses with large yard and car park areas. Several combined roof + canopy projects have been completed here since 2023.

Meadowhall and Retail Cluster

Meadowhall Shopping Centre (S9) — one of the UK’s largest regional shopping centres — has a vast surface car park that has been identified as a major solar canopy opportunity. Surrounding retail parks along Attercliffe Road and at Parkgate have similarly large footprints.

South Yorkshire MCA Support

The SYMCA Net Zero Business Programme offers grants of up to £25,000 for qualifying SMEs installing renewable energy equipment. The Mayoral Development Corporation for the Lower Don Valley has also indicated planning support for renewable energy structures within its development zone.
